Protection of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Curridge resides in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). 37 different AONBs across England and Wales are designated as special landscapes that provide a range of benefits for people and wildlife. The purpose of the AONB designation is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty of the area, including geological and physical characteristics and scenic views.
The North Wessex Downs AONB was established in 1972, and is afforded protection by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. Within the AONB it is even more important that any permitted development enhances the local environment and does not detract from it.
