Housing Site Allocations Development Plan
West Berkshire District Council's Housing Site Allocations DPD forms part of the council's local plan, and allocates the strategic locations for 'at least' 10,500 new homes to be built in West Berkshire by 2026. The DPD was developed during a public consultation period between 2014-15 and was submitted to the Secretary of State for examination on 6 April 2016.
Following review by the Secretary of State's inspector, modifications and consultations to the DPD are currently underway and the final report from the inspector is expected in early 2017.
The proposed DPD identifies specific sites on which future major housing developments should be located within the district. It also includes proposals for allocation of the projected demand for Gypsy and Travellers' sites.
No strategic housing sites in Curridge are included in the proposed DPD. No strategic sites are identified in neighboring service village Chieveley, although a number of changes are proposed to the settlement boundary there, to include smaller sites that are too small to form a formal allocation under DPD.
The proposed DPD allocates two sites for development of new permanent pitches for travellers in the West Berkshire district within the next 5 years, along with a third site under consideration for longer term demand (5-10 years).
